"Soundtrack for Disaster"
Reviews
Magnet
Magazine - "Shove's full-length debut has "indie rock"
stamped all over it, and while that's not always a good thing, it is here.
[They] produce a competent, catchy brand of rock 'n' roll, marked by the
requisite quiet/loud dynamic and buried-in-the-mix vocals. (It's not always
easy to make out what Jen is saying, but her voice is fairly reminiscent
of the Veruca Salt girls.) Soundtrack for Disaster starts out a
bit on the slow side (though "Me Vs. Darth" is sweet), but it
picks up nicely toward the middle with the melodic, feedback-drenched
"Socktan." The bass-heavy "Ride The Wheel" follows
with a nifty, snaky guitar line, and the mostly instrumental "Tri
City Rough" becomes impressively urgent with the onset of its male
screams. "Princess Superette," a hard-rock pummeling worth absorbing,
ends things, its majestic guitar providing a ringing exclamation. No disaster
at all." Matt Hickey
Your Flesh
- "Power pop blasts of teenage angst have found a home on Shove's
Soundtrack for Disaster. . . Layered in rough guitars, Jen, Jay,
and Mark belt out the hits as if simultaneously being spoon-fed sugar
pills. . . Each [song] has its own distorted edge, feedback session, and
overpowering vocal harmonies. With enough persistence and charm to entrance
a small country, Shove may be the next indie stars to hit the big time."

ZUM
zine - "Maturity for rock bands is a very delicate thing
to balance out, but this effort signals an effective balancing act. .
. Taking tonal cues and recording techniques from the basements of Chicago,
Cali indie girl punk meets the elite criterion head-on. Slowbies like
"French Camp" echo hero/patrons the Breeders. When push comes..."
